Our scoring framework
The AI Citation Readiness Score
The score Cited Co uses to measure whether AI tools can find, trust, and cite your business across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude.
Get Your Free SnapshotThe AI Citation Readiness Score, or ACRS, is the framework Cited Co uses to measure how ready your business is to be named by AI tools. It scores you out of 100 across the four categories that AI models actually pull from when they recommend a business, and it audits the inputs those models read rather than surveying the answers they give. Read your score and you know three things: where you stand today, which of the four categories is holding you back, and what to fix first. Cited Co is a boutique AI visibility agency founded by Lauren Lerner in Scottsdale, Arizona, and ACRS is the method behind every result we produce.
Most measurement in this space guesses. ACRS does not. The inputs AI systems rely on are knowable, measurable, and improvable, which is why a score can be moved on purpose instead of by luck.
What the Research Shows
AI has become a place people go for recommendations, and the businesses named in those answers win the client first. The data supports both the shift and the size of the opening.
- Living with Lolo, our first client, went from a 22 to a 71 overall ACRS in about 90 days, and now appears across all four platforms we track. Cited Co proprietary scan data, April to June 2026.
- In our study of the Scottsdale and Phoenix interior design market, only 2 of 7 established firms scored above 70 on AI Citation Readiness. Most recognized businesses are close to invisible in AI answers. Cited Co proprietary research, 2026.
- In 2024, 58.5 percent of United States Google searches ended without a single click, and by 2026 fewer than one in three still send a click to the open web. SparkToro, 2024 to 2026.
- ChatGPT reached 900 million weekly active users by February 2026, more than double a year earlier. TechCrunch, 2026.
What ACRS measures
ACRS scores four categories, worth 25 points each, for 100 total. Each one maps to a kind of signal AI models weigh when deciding who to name.
Authoritative press and media. Coverage in indexed publications. National and trade features carry more weight than a single local mention, because AI models treat earned media as evidence of authority.
Third-party citations and recognition. Awards, independent mentions, and inclusion on the curated “best in category” lists that AI tools actually cite when they answer. An award announced in an indexed publication counts far more than the same award listed only on your own site.
Structured directory and entity presence. Complete, consistent, claimed profiles across the directories that matter for your category, with structured data that AI can read. Consistent name, address, and phone across sources is a core trust signal.
Content depth and provider authority. Published content that answers the specific questions your clients ask, plus named, credentialed people behind the business. A firm that publishes clear, opinionated answers earns citations. A gallery of photos does not.
Why ACRS scores inputs, not outputs
You could ask ChatGPT the same question ten times and get ten slightly different answers. That makes AI output a noisy thing to measure and a frustrating thing to chase. So ACRS measures the underlying signals instead. Those inputs are stable, and when you strengthen them, the citations follow. This is the difference between doing the work and hoping, and doing the work and knowing why it moves.
How to read your score
Scores fall into three tiers. High is 70 and above, which means AI tools have real material to draw on and you show up. Moderate runs from 55 to 69, where you appear for some questions and not others. Low is below 55, where a business can have a strong local reputation and still be invisible in AI answers. Where you sit tells you how much room you have, and the four category scores tell you exactly where to spend the effort.
A Real Example
When we started with Living with Lolo, a Scottsdale luxury interior design and design-build firm, its ACRS was 22. The firm had won Phoenix Magazine’s best interior design award and held an active Arizona contractor license, but AI tools had almost no structured way to describe it. We worked the four categories in order of leverage. Within about 90 days the score reached 71, and ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini were citing the firm by name. The full story is in our case studies. Lauren Lerner built that with the same framework every client gets, and it is why we can offer a written visibility guarantee.
